Creature Creature Live Report
On the night of June 20th, while the air is still breezy and calm outside, the live house of Shibuya O-east is already heating up with an enthusiastic audience coming to see the long-awaited return of the charismatic band Creature Creature.
Since the formation of Creature Creature, there have been some changes in the member's lineup. The band now consists of a strong gathering: vocalist Morrie (ex-Dead End), guitarist Hiro (Libraian, ex-La’cryma Christi) and Shinobu (ex-Guy’s Family) along with Hitoki (ROBO+S, Dummy’s Corporation, ex-Kuroyume) on bass, and Sakura (S.O.A.P, ex-L’Arc-en-ciel, ex-ZIGZO) on drum. Although the band started out as Morrie’s solo project, with each of the members coming from different and influential bands with a variety of musical focuses, Creature Creature is no doubt a fusion of enigma. The band is now going to hit the stage with a brand new impact consisting of an original, mysterious charm.
As the curtain draws apart slightly, a gash of light breaking through silence, the band opens up the stage with their new song, “Shinkuu.” With only the vocalist Morrie being visible in the beginning, the band guides the audience into their world gradually, in a cool and skillful manner. After the intro of “Shinkuu,” the curtain is at last fully drawn apart, exposing the whole band in front of the crowd.
Although half of the set list consists of new songs, the crowd is completely immersed into the performance, under the spell of Creature Creature’s magic. The crowd cheers on and calls the members on stage during the few breaks between songs. The concert is fully packed with song after song. However, the interaction between the crowd and stage works fantastically well. The microphone was given to the crowd for a few moments during “Paradise,” and the last encore, “Sen no Anya ni.” The audience is able to sing along as if they have been practicing and waiting for this moment.
...
When the last note of “Haru no kikai” fades away, the crowd starts to clap and call for an encore immediately. The band returns to the stage and soon heats the space up again with the song “aya.” When the second encore of “Sen no Anya ni” is over, the crowd continues to clap, even after the band has left the stage for the second time. No one shows the slightest intention of leaving, even after an announcement declares the end of the show and staff has already come up to clear up the stage.
After few minutes has gone by, while some people have started to make their way out of the concert hall, Creature Creature makes a surprise appearance onstage, dressed in their tour t-shirts. The crowd swarms back toward the stage with loud cheers and excitement, all gathered up once again for this rare chance of seeing this magnificent combination. Vocalist Morrie speaks up and gives their gratitude to the audience, and everyone responds with eagerness, while some are even moved to tears. The band then bows together with their hands on each other’s shoulders and finally leave the stage, leaving the night with a feeling of infinite hope and wonder.
This stunning comeback has left me with an even stronger impression of not only the music, but also the presence and charm of each of the members. This astonishing performance is definitely worth the wait of two and half years, and hopefully, we will be able to see more of Creature Creature’s activity sometime soon.
