Review of SHiFT's Under the Umber Sky
Written by guest writer Tensei.
When listening to SHiFT's album (mini-album?) "Under the Umber Sky," it is apparent from the beginning to the end, that it is a well paced work to behold.
"Under the Umber Sky" is kicked off right away with the song of that same name. It sets the tone with its uptempo drums and hard kicking guitar. The vocals are fairly strong and seem to fit well with the music and give the listener a sense of transcendance.
"Alone" follows up the title song with a more dialed down tempo but still keeps the energy that the album began with. The vocals in this song are very good and really make the listener feel a sense of, possibly, anguish. And the guitar solo in the middle seems to show the torment left in someone that is "Alone."
...
The song that wraps up the album is "Sui Yume" and it does this very well and exhibits a more meaningful feeling to the music that, while still present in the previous two, are better encompassed in this song. So well, that perhaps it should be the centerpeice in the album. Despite that, it is probably in the spot that best fits the emotions present within the notes. And you can probably tell that it is the reviewer's favorite.
While "Under the Umber Sky" does have some rough edges here and there, it does have more pros than cons, therefore I'd recommend it as a good album to have. Even if it's just to get "Sui Yume." ^_~V
