Kanzen Official Artist EVE Music Review
EVE Music Review
By Henade
The first word that comes to mind when listening to EVE is “Wow!” I wasn’t sure what to expect from them, honestly, but was more than pleasantly surprised at what greeted me. The quality of composition and lyrics, not to mention their individual and group skills with their instruments, is astounding. It is more what you would expect from veteran musicians and not a ‘garage/Indies’ band.
Regardless of their years, they show a potential and talent that most never come by. It is obvious from Sid’s smooth and hypnotic vocals, to his drawn out screams, Saya’s powerful drums, Riku and Jay’s breathtaking guitar riffs and the low and blending bass, that they have talent to spare. EVE is already what most musicians strive to be.
I tried to choose a favorite of the songs I listened to, but honestly, I couldn’t chose just one. I like each for different reasons.
...
Break is fast paced, with great guitar and drums that stand out, but don’t overpower the other instruments and vocals. It’s a great song to head bang to, or just sit in your own little world with the music. I really liked the blending of the guitars and the subtle classical violin sound in the song.
Lost Inside is another somewhat fast, but very smooth song and has a strong intensity to it. Sid goes from yelling to singing, transitioning smoothly between them and again blending well with the instrumentals.
Last Page is just as intense, but slower than the previous two songs. The music gives the impression of calm sadness; Sid’s vocals play perfectly along with this. He draws the listener into his story and makes you want to take the invitation to feel what he’s feeling. Again, there is the blending of guitar, bass and drums with the classical sounds of violins.
I guess if I had to choose a favorite, Only a Prelude would be it; my reason being, simply because of Sid’s absolutely amazing vocal range in this song. Whispering and singing intensely then just as intensely screaming and sending chills up your spine the whole time not drowning out the other instruments. It has a great beat and is a great example of their composition talents.
St. Maria is my favorite of the slower songs. I love the guitar intro, simple and attention catching, it draws you in as the heavier guitar and drums start. Given the previous song, you wouldn’t really expect such a ballad to come from the same screamer, but it does. Especially in the way he croons out the chorus, instantly making the listener melt. The guitars blend very well together in this song, making it my favorite for the guitar sounds.
Rebellion is just… so amazing with the drums. They are intense and make me want to see them live to see if Saya is really the one playing them. Again, another screamer song, the vocals are rougher and way more intense than the others. The guitar riffs are harsh and remind me a lot of the heavy metal I listened to growing up.
It can be difficult to interpret feelings in music, because what I feel isn’t always what the song is about, or what was intended. In the end, the music is what the artist was feeling, not me, so I can only interpret what I felt. So, I would rather not do it, but since the lyrics are in English, its hard not to listen closely to them and make your own interpretation.
I’m still wondering after listening to this entire album, if they are really a garage/Indies band. Their work is, well, ‘epic’ for lack of an appropriate adjective. The talent they display makes me excited to see what they come up with next, and I wait eagerly to see them grow to their full potential.
